Beyond walking the dog (which is much nicer and less repetitive here than when we were in London), I’ve been struggling to stick to any kind of exercise regimen during the pandemic. I’ve tried running, skipping, basketball, yoga, two or three different workout apps, the /r/bodyweight “recommended routine”, and I just can’t stick to any of them. Too boring. I’d love to go swimming or climbing or pick up something new like lifting weights or – I dunno, kayaking? I suppose I quite liked throwing the basketball at the hoop, but it’s not much of a workout by myself.

On basketball: my unexpected run of luck in the fantasy NBA league looks like it’s coming to an end with four of my players out or injured this week. Apparently I’ve got four players ranked in the top 23, which is pretty good, but obviously doesn’t help if they’re sat on the bench with a dickie tummy or a swollen foot. It’s a shame the games are on so late (UK time) – I only really get to watch one or two live on the weekends – but following the NBA is much healthier than doom-scrolling my rather politics-heavy Twitter feed.

Work at the moment is generally falling into two categories: very interesting stuff around API design, and extremely boring stuff around frontend tooling. I love React and TypeScript and GraphQL, but sometimes I wonder if I’d be happier in life having never learned what Webpack and ESLint are? There’s a specific kind of “software engineer who hates software” persona that I try to avoid, but these tools really do make it easy to grumble. Brb, switching to Rome.
